Hille - Chairs - Designated Personal Space

Robin Day - Hille - The Polypropylene chair. The first = the polyside chair in 1963.  Polypropylene had been invented in 1954 and by the end of that decade Shell Chemicals produced the material in various formulations. Day realised that polypropylene would be perfect for a low cost mass produced chair. The original design and variations of it were and still are used in the arrangement and division of public spaces worldwide. From schools, to churches, to offices, stadiums etc.
These chairs are therefore important to recognise when thinking about public and private space.

Above^ design created by repeating and flipping image of polypropylene chairs.
